The English Short Stories and Conversation class was created many years ago, and now it is more than a class. It has become a flexible group of friends where, twice a month, you can not only read various kinds of books and discuss every sort of subjects, but also get useful pieces of advice, laugh and hear lots of new points of view.
After the last lesson in February, I left Switzerland, heading to Italy, on a sunny Sunday morning. It was March 1st. and everything looked normal. As soon as the train reached the border, the Austrian crew took over and the new staff were wearing masks. The pandemia had arrived.
The following weeks of lockdown in Italy were a nightmare, and - due to different reasons - only in July could I re-enter Switzerland and attend the English lessons with Yana and the group again.
What an emotion!
Besides, Brigitte, one of the founders of this class, had her birthday and organised a special lesson at her place (see in the photo how fantastic it is!) with some special treats like real scones with jam and clotted cream.
Sooooo strange feelings.
On the one hand, I felt like I was coming from another world and another time, like centuries - each of them full of events and sensations and thoughts - had flown between the last lesson and this one.
On the other hand... everything was marvellous as it had always been: the people were nice as always, interesting as always, wonderful as always... as nothing had happened!
We spent a fantastic morning in Brigitte's cosy home eating delicacies while reading and discussing “To Kill a Mockingbird” ... and reflecting on life. That is why I feel blessed for being part of this group.
