The play "Pygmalion" was our semester project and a challenge for us. It is a masterpiece of English dramatic literature. Reading the book before watching the play was helpful. The play had funny scenes. My favourite one was at the tea party at Mrs. Higgins house. The actors, there were only 5, switched between several roles masterfully.
Although the piece was written over 100 years ago, the theme of "Pygmalion" is still relevant today: the class differences, human malleability, not to mention the Oedipus complex... (Monika)
5 actors in 8 roles! I liked the play because all the actors played so vividly, they changed their roles so impressively. The changing from the flower girl to a lady was amazing. Mr. Higgin`s character was well dipicted. I was impressed how they showed the arrogance of the Professor and his friend and Eliza`s sadness when her education was done! Even though I didn`t understand every word, I could follow the play very well. I simply enjoyed the evening! (Maya)
The play showed that not only clothes "make people," but also their choice of words. What I mean: a proverb says: "Clothes make good people" and Bernard Shaw in this piece proved as well that the words and pronunciation are as important "to make people." I was very excited about the play because we had been preparing for it for weeks. It turned out to be more entertaining than I had imagined. The scene of the ball with the modern music from Robbie Williams was particularly impressive. (Daniel)
For me, the visit to the theatre was a good chance to see the progress in my English and to see how much from the story I could understand. Before we went to see the play we prepared ourselves. I personally read Bernard Shaw's biography and another classmate of mine shared with us a summary of the story and a mindmap of the persanages of the play, which was very helpful. Therefore I could truly enjoy this evening in the theatre. (Tino)
